If you’re looking for extreme adventure in the Puerto Vallarta area, you’re in luck, because Puerto Vallarta is chock-full of fun adventures to be had! With its unique location on the Bahia de Banderas (Banderas Bay), nestled between ocean and mountains, adventure is your playground! One of our favorite activities that we partook in during our three months living in Puerto Vallarta, was the Extreme Adventure through a company called Vallarta Adventures, based out of Nuevo Vallarta.

The Extreme Adventure is a day chock-full of adrenaline and fun, and includes the following activities:
- ATV (driven by your expert guide)
- Avatar roller coaster zipline
- 6 ziplines, including the longest in the country at over one minute long, superman style!
- Climbing net
- Rappel
- Obstacle Course
- Pendulum Swing
- Wind tunnel (similar to iFly) – simulated skydiving
- Waterslide
This fun adventure takes place in the Sierra Madre Mountains just 45 minutes East of Bucerias. You’ll meet the staff at their meeting point in Nuevo Vallarta and they’ll take you in a shared van. If you have a rental car, another adventure I recommend on a different day, located in the same vicinity, is visiting San Sebastian Del Oeste, a wonderful hidden mountain village gem. You can read more about what to do there in my blog post: San Sebastian Del Oeste is Jalisco’s Hidden Gem.
The guides were one of our favorite parts of this experience – everyone is funny, patient, knowledgeable and they’ll make sure you feel comfortable and safe. The adventure starts off on a thrilling, muddy, dusty ride on an ATV razor, so you’ll want to wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty! This adventure also includes a waterslide at the end, so you’ll want to either wear your swim suit, or bring it with you, along with a change of clothes for afterwards!

Next is the zipline; this company has a unique rollercoaster-like track called the Avatar, which is a cross between the longest swing of your life, a rollercoaster, and a zipline. So cool!

They’ll start you off with a short zipline to get the hang of it, and then you graduate to the big kid courses! Keep in mind that there is some light hiking to get to each zipline, so you must be in physical shape to walk on uneven surfaces. I recommend wearing comfortable closed-toed footwear or active sandals such as Teva or Chacos.

Your last zipline is the longest in the country – over one minute flying through the air like Superman! They even strap a GoPro camera to your helmet, which, let me tell you, will be THE most hilarious video footage you’ll ever see of yourself. It turns out looking like something between a floating head, a made-up meme with a fake background, and a flying squirrel. (See video below.)
*PRO TIP* – Move your head from side to side, look up and down, make funny faces, and turn your head in all directions to get more interesting footage.

Turn your sound up for the video below. I’ve watched this video over ten times and am in fits of laughter every single time! Now you’ll see why I tell you to swivel your head often.

Next up is the climbing net (harder than it looks!) – this is optional, and if you’re not feeling up for the challenge of pulling your body weight up a wobbly net, you can also just walk around to the next activity, which is the pendulum swing!

You’ll also get to run across moving logs several stories high, like an obstacle course! (Don’t worry, you’re safely harnessed and strapped in at all times)

The last two adventures are the wind tunnel (similar to iFly, a simulated skydiving experience), where you get to be in an air tube for two minutes (it feels a lot longer!), and the experience culminates in a long waterslide (so wear your swim suit!)

This was definitely one of the most memorable activities we did in Mexico, and we give it five stars and highly recommend it! It’s great for families, couples, single folks, and people of all ages. Vallarta Adventures offers a plethora of incredible experiences in the Puerto Vallarta area, including the night show, Rhythms of the Night, parasailing, boating tours, day trips to Sayulita, and the list goes on! You can book your adventure on their website.
